Inspired by the real-life Emergency Task Force of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, this taut police drama chronicles the efforts of the Strategic Response Unit (SRU), an elite and highly skilled group of cops charged with rescuing hostages, defusing bombs and breaking up gangs. They work by utilizing their training to get inside the heads of these people in order to make them reach their breaking point. The series title refers to the psychological aspect of the job, which is also the focus of the show: getting inside a suspect’s head and discovering the emotional “flashpoint” that triggered the crisis in the first place, with the hope of diffusing the situation safely and using force only as a last resort.
Flashpoint is a new action series highlighting the aspect of life when family and job come into conflict, how one deals with this. A policeman’s lot is not a happy one. In this series a special-operations cop named Ed Lane (Hugh Dillon) blithely telegraphs his sentiments on work-family balance. Ed has a shaved head and an intense face that suggests he has seen a lot of bad things go down in dark places; he probably wears aviator glasses when he sleeps.
The other team exists of Sgt. Gregory Parker (Enrico Colantoni), the field leader of the team. Further in the team are Julianna “Jules” Callaghan (Amy Jo Johnson), Sam Braddock (David Paetkau), who is the new guy on the team. Then there are Lou “Lewis” Young (Mark Taylor), Mike ‘Spike’ Scarlatti (Sergio Di Zio), Kevin ‘Wordy’ Wordsworth (Michael Cram). Also there is Dr. Amanda Luria (Ruth Marshall), she helps the team with their missions but is not a member of the team.
These are the men and women in the Strategic Response Unit who make Toronto safe. The show is based upon the experiences of the real life of the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force. Even if you are not the kind of person that likes cop shows you should watch it because of the intriguing story line, the cast and for many other reasons.
Missional church is definitely a buzz-phrase that is anywhere you look these days. the concept that we have to categorize churches, missional, has for eternity been a little odd to me. I mean, shouldnt all bodies of Christ be missional in their very essence? all churches, at its very essence, want to connect their culture and city with the good news as a missionary would in a different country? Isnt what the places of worship is instructed to do in the great commission in Matthew 28:19? Our own local area deserves this type of church. The Government’s recent statement about its plans to snap broadband connections to fight internet piracy has prompted otherwise rival internet service providers to come together and write a letter to the Government against the declaration.
Published in The Times daily, Jim Killock of Open Rights Group, Charles Dunstone of TalkTalk, Ed Mayo of Consumer Focus, Deborah Prince of Which?, Ian Livingston of BT and Tom Alexander of Orange UK pooled up to write this letter challenging the Government’s current schemes to bring down file sharing.
The telecoms chiefs expressed their opinions stating clearly that everybody knows the fact that creative industry plays a pivotal role in the UK. They pointed out that however the proposed schemes limits the rights of broadband consumers and the expansion of new services.
The letter stated that consumers must be considered as innocent unless proven otherwise. A “kangaroo court” kind of extra-judicial procedure must be avoided, wherein facts are not properly verified and broadband consumers are disallowed the right to defend themselves against untrue allegations. In a situation without these safety measures, faultless consumers will have to suffer what they do not deserve.
All the providers were unanimous that the scheme wherein the ISPs and broadband consumers are to pay for the cost of the procedure was a revoltingly unjust idea, particularly because a huge population of consumers do not partake in file sharing illegitimately.
Furthermore, the CEO of TalkTalk, Charles Dunstone requested major content providers to work together with consumer groups and broadband providers to outline a solid explanation, which they commonly agree upon and talk to the Government. The CEO said that TalkTalk will carry on struggling for consumers’ rights and against the said proposal.
