Why One Woman Identifies With Midlife Crisis Men

I experienced my own mid-life crisis at 33 and for the next 15
years transitioned from entrepreneur to college student to
helpmate and homemaker to entrepreneur to unemployed to employed
to unemployed to commissioned sales to employed to unemployed to
NOW. Quite a circuitous route!

Yes a plan helps, but sometimes meeting our future takes a leap
of faith. I started a blog as a leap of faith, and I wanted a
career change. Did I know for a fact that there were thousands
of men who might benefit from my experience in the trenches? No,
but my senses told me that many men wished that they were better
understood. Men often are misunderstood, lack support for their
decisions, and go unnoticed for their contributions to family
and community.

When I “retired” from the advertising world, I remembered
thinking, “Now I know why men die after they retire.” I lost my
moorings. Even though closing my business was a conscious
decision, I was so identified with a fast-paced, competitive
world that I lost my sense of self.

Five years later, I launched a small-press publishing company
and thought that I had finally found my calling. That venture
aborted just on the cusp of major national exposure. It took me
four years and a mental breakdown to recover.

But sometimes what we perceive to be a “breakdown” is really a
“breakthrough.”

What I’ve learned is that we can’t control anything. I can’t
control a thing
. Think for a moment about Chinese
handcuffs; the harder you pull, the stronger they bind you. The
same is true with the mental and emotional confusion wrought
from a breakdown. When we try to control our life, we will
continue to muddle along. Instead, consider the possibility that
by adapting to a new and changing reality, clarity and direction
are yours for the asking.

The harder I pulled those handcuffs, the tighter they bound me
to the old form. I couldn’t let go, until my life circumstances
forced me to.

Men don’t have it easy in this world. Protecting and providing
for your family, day in and day out, doesn’t garner much media
attention. How do you protect your family from the unseen? How
do you provide when the “old” economy reneges on its promises?
Or steals your financial future?

Are you stressing and grinding out each day with no end in sight?

I know how you feel I (I’d been whipsawed by the gyrations of
the auto industry.) I’ve felt that way myself (the never-ending
anxieties of a mother.) And I’ve found that holding on doesn’t
work. Today is the only day we have. I spent all that energy and
emotion lamenting my fate, but I can’t say that it was wasted.

I came to realize that things happen in their own time. Lao-Tzu
wrote, “Waiting is not empty hoping.” There is such a thing as
timing. I needed to acquire more emotional tools and mental
weapons to be prepared for unforeseen battles.

I forgot who I was for a while, but I never stopped striving and
readying myself.

A day comes in every seeker’s life called the “dark night of the
soul.” We cannot measure how long that day will last. Eventfully
you emerge, and can say with confidence and clarity: I know who
I am! That knowledge gives you the courage to act.

Let that be your anchor, not the “shoulds” of society or the
expectation of others. Provide for and protect your family to
the best of your ability. That’s all that’s required.

Body Reshaping After a Baby

With the increasing acceptability of cosmetic surgery, it is
becoming more common for women to enhance their bodies after the
changes that occur post-pregnancy. In fact, Sydney plastic
surgeon Dr Kourosh Tavakoli says that up to 30 percent of women
in his practice come to see him because they would like to
improve their post-pregnancy body.

He stresses that before embarking on cosmetic surgery there has
to be a grace period after a pregnancy so that the body has time
to normalise. ‘This period can range from 12 to 24 months,’ he
explains. ‘I would not recommend any cosmetic work within a year
after a pregnancy. Mums also need to keep in mind that they will
need support after their surgery because for a period of time
they will have difficulty picking up their baby.’

According to Dr Tavakoli, the top three procedures that this
group of women requests are breast enhancement, abdominoplasty
and liposculpture.

Breast Enhancement

Dr Tavakoli says the degree of change women experience in their
breasts depends on whether they have breastfed and the duration
of their breastfeeding. ‘The more women have breastfed, the more
dramatic the changes that occur to their breasts are,’ he
explains.’Two things that can happen to breasts are a reduction
of volume and a loss of shape. In assessing the breasts, these
two parameters need to be closely considered and adjustments
made accordingly. If a woman has droopiness, her main option is
to have a breast lift. The third problem is excess breast tissue
and this usually requires a breast reduction.’

Abdominoplasty

In Dr Tavakoli’s practice, an abdominoplasty, also known as a
tummy tuck, is almost always combined with liposculpture because
this offers a better result. The procedure is designed to
tighten any laxity of the abdominal wall, which is a result of
skin stretching, by removing excess fat and skin. ‘The women who
usually require an abdominoplasty are those who have had
multiple pregnancies and/or have had large babies in relation to
their body size,’ he says.

Liposculpture

Some women request liposculpture as an isolated procedure after
their pregnancy. Often it is the case that the problem areas
were there before the pregnancy but the pregnancy has
accentuated these areas. ‘In other words, difficult areas can
become more prominent,’ he says.

Recovery

According to Dr Tavakoli, many women choose to have breast and
body surgery at the same time. The recovery time for a breast
enhancement, abdominoplasty and liposculpture is longer (about
three to four weeks) but the advantage is that the surgery is
all over and done with at once.

He adds that recovery from a breast augmentation takes 10 days
while more elaborate breast surgery takes from two to three
weeks.

Liposculpture requires two weeks recovery time and an
abdominoplasty requires three weeks. Abdominoplasty also
requires a hospital stay of two nights but the other procedures
can be performed as day procedures.’Cosmetic surgery after
pregnancy can have a very positive effect,’ concludes Dr
Tavakoli. ‘As long as the expectations are realistic, the
overall satisfaction rate in this group of patients is very
high.’

Strategies On How A Woman Can Overcome Their Phobias

Many women have a difficult time in overcoming their phobias.
One of the ways that women can learn to manage their particular
phobia is to find out what exactly is their fear. If you have
trouble finding out what that fear may be, then try to talk to a
professional who can help you figure out what the fear may be.
Once you know what the fear is, then the next step is to find
the ways to deal with that fear.

Sometimes, we may be nervous doing a certain task that may be
scary. When this happens, visualize yourself doing the task in
your mind. For instance, you and your team have to play in the
championship hockey game in front of a large group of people in
the next few days. Before the big day comes, imagine yourself
playing the game in your mind. Imagine that your playing in
front of a large audience. By playing the game in your mind, you
will be better prepared to perform for real when the time comes.
Self- Visualization is a great way to reduce the fear and stress
of a coming situation.

Challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and
realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your
fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself
questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. For
example, your afraid that if you do not get that job promotion
then you will be stuck at your job forever. This depresses you,
however your thinking in this situation is unrealistic. The fact
of the matter is that there all are kinds of jobs available and
just because you don’t get this job promotion doesn’t mean that
you will never get one. In addition, people change jobs all the
time, and you always have that option of going elsewhere if you
are unhappy at your present location. Changing your thinking can
help you manage your fears.

When facing a current or upcoming task that overwhelms you with
a lot of anxiety, divide the task into a series of smaller steps
and then complete each of the smaller tasks one at a time.
Completing these smaller tasks will make the stress more
manageable and increases your chances of success.

As a layman, I realize it is not easy to overcome our phobias.
Remember that sometimes our worrying and fears can make the
problem even worse. Take things in stride and try not focus too
much on the problem. In time, you will find the ways to overcome
your phobia. If you have trouble, talk to a professional who can
give you additional insights on your situation.

The Great Awakening–Menopause

The Great Awakening–Menopause By: Dr. Loretta Lanphier, ND, CN,
HHP

Menopause is a natural transition all women experience, as
natural as adolescence. For your grandmother and
great-grandmother, life expectancy was shorter. Reaching
menopause often meant that their life was nearing an end. But
this is no longer true. Today women are living longer—on
average, until age 78. How you experience menopause is
determined by many factors: attitude, diet, overall health,
genetics, and your cultural group. Medical science views
menopause as the state of your body after you had completed one
full year without having a period. It is most definitely not a
disease! By making wise decisions about your menopause and
healthy lifestyle, you can make the most of the 20, 30, or more
years afterwards!

Attitude Many women report that they are glad to no longer have
their monthly periods and all of the hormonal or just physical
issues that accompanied their periods. They feel a freedom from
having to be concerned about pregnancy and birth control. There
is a sense of more energy, and a sense of freedom that comes
without the biological drive to be mother, helper, and nurturer.
Many women turn their attention to those things in life they
have put aside. Some start new careers or businesses. Others
take up creative pursuits like photography or painting, while
others travel to places they have wanted to see. These women
have a positive attitude.

Those women who dread menopause, see it as unnatural, or a sign
of old age (and we all get old don’t we!), have more problems
enjoying the transition during perimenopause. They report more
symptom issues. Negative attitudes result in negative
experiences.

Wake-up Call Everything is magnified, starting in your
perimenopause, then continuing on as you make the transition
into menopause. Issues you have not reconciled as a woman will
surface for you to deal with. Perhaps long overdue lifestyle
changes need to be made. Your body is very smart and it will
start to purge any “stuffed” emotions. This means the body does
not want to carry these negative thought patterns or habits
inside anymore. If you have experienced trauma or hurtful
experiences—the ones unresolved–they will come up. You will
remember incidents you ignored or just could not deal with at
the time. Maybe you did not have a safe space to work on them.
This is the opportunity to let them go. If you understand this
purge and welcome it, you will experience an easier transition.

Health issues that have been neglected will also wake-up. Be
sure you get thorough check-ups and tests during this time,
including dental, vision, heart health, as well as hormones.
Health issues are serious to me. I have walked the path of being
unhealthy and the path of health. I very definitely choose being
healthy. We can implement preventative health. Diet, exercise,
clean water, stress management, healthy environment, and no
synthetic drugs go a long way in creating and keeping a healthy
body.

Spiritual Awakening You may find that the changes you are making
lead you to an awakening spiritually. This happens to many women
who welcome this growth. Seek out your local church, take
classes in meditation, discover new spiritual thought, or a
renewed connection with God. You are a spirit with a body.
Approaching your spiritual wellness includes making choices that
take care of yourself physically and emotionally.

Proactive Steps Although menopause is one of the important
physical milestones in a woman’s life, many women lack concrete
information about what is taking place, and what are the
options. It is your right to know your body and be informed.
With a proper attitude, diet, nutritional supplements, exercise,
and simple lifestyle changes, most of the unpleasant side
effects of menopause can be minimized to a great extent. With
this knowledge and preparation you can step forward with grace
and embrace it! To make menopause fun and pleasant: ŸMake
choices to eliminate/reduce stress. ŸCreate a sanctuary space
for yourself where you can meditate, write, draw, or anything
that expresses your thoughts and emotions. ŸFind an exercise you
like and stick with it. ŸEvaluate diet and reduce weight, if you
have gained pounds over the years. ŸBecome selfish with your
time for yourself. Do more things for you and evaluate
care-giving roles. ŸGet enough rest and sleep. ŸDevelop an
outside interest or hobby. ŸHave joy and fun in your life. If
this means making new friends, go do it. You can find out more

Drugs…You Can Feel Good Again and in the articles posted on this

If you haven’t gone through menopause yet, you’ll want to have
an easy adjustment to your body’s changes. Begin to educate
yourself about the symptoms and their causes before, or during,
perimenopause–the time when you begin to experience symptoms.

Impotence - Oral Treatment Overview

Impotence is generally the disorder of sexual activities which include inability to perform sexual intercourse and inability to reproduction also. Our today’s discussions will be an overview of the treatment of Impotence.

However, our space is limited here. We shall concentrate our discussions on erectile dysfunction which is an important cause of impotence.

What is erectile dysfunction?

The inability to keep enough erection during sexual intercourse for longer period is the erectile dysfunction to male. This brings to one man, inability to have enough sex with his female partner leaving both the partners unhappy. Continuous or frequent happening of this event leads them to depression.

What is the cause of this erectile dysfunction?

By scientific study it was revealed that insufficient blood circulation through the male organ before sexual intercourse was the reason for this erectile dysfunction for male.

What are the treatments of Erectile Dysfunction?

While other methods of treatment may or may not be easily available, there is an easy solution which we want to discuss here.

There are a number of oral pills like Viagra, Cialis etc. available in the market for erectile dysfunction.

Among them use of Viagra has been proved to be the most effective process for oral treatment against this inability.

Taking Viagra orally before sexual activity increases blood circulation through the male organ system causing sufficient and sustained erection.

Viagra - the little blue pill is brought to the market by Pfizer to help millions of male persons with Erectile Dysfunction.

No sooner the drug was brought to the market to fight erectile dysfunction after long time of research, than it was an instant success. After the drug obtained FDA approval, thousands and
thousands of Americans suffering from this inability got the respite from the curse, and their sex life was totally changed.

As it is a prescription drug, initially, it was not easily available for the American citizens. The solution of this problem was carried out by the on line pharmacy. They came to the rescue and the drug is now easily available in the on line pharmacy, tanks to the internet technology and e-commerce. Now any person can buy Viagra online to get relief from sexual inability.

To use the drug, some instructions from the doctor are to be followed. It is to be taken one hour before sex and to be taken once a day and should not be used for other purpose. The drug is not suitable for women.

There are some side effects of Viagra e.g. headache, upset of stomach etc. Some times blurred vision is also reported. This is still under study.

Considering all aspects, Viagra has proved itself to be the best oral treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction? Buy Viagra on line and improve your sex life.

Pregnancy Symptoms and Signs

How can you tell if you are pregnant? There are a number of signs and symptoms to watch for. Chances are you will only experience a portion of the symptoms. Each pregnancy is different, and the same mom to be can experience different pregnancy signs each time she gets pregnant.

Pregnancy symptoms can begin for some mothers immediately after conception. Some pregnancy signs require that you chart your cycle, noting your daily basal body temperature.

Implantation

While a rare minority will experience pregnancy symptoms sooner, typically the first pregnancy signs occur when your baby implants around 8-10 days after ovulation. Implantation causes an increase in progesterone levels, which can lead to higher temperatures giving you a tri-phasic chart. If you temperature remains high for fifteen or more days after ovulation, you may be pregnant. Some women will see a slight temperature drop at implantation. Implantation bleeding sometimes occurs and can be pink, red, or brown in color. You may also have lower abdominal cramps.

Positive Pregnancy Test

The next and best sign that you are pregnant is a positive pregnancy test. Home pregnancy tests measure the pregnancy hormone hCG in your urine. The most sensitive home pregnancy tests will show a positive result when the hCG levels reach 20, which can happen as early as four days before your period is due, or approximately 10 days after ovulation.

False negatives are common when testing early with a home pregnancy test, so I recommend you wait to use one until eighteen days after ovulation to avoid false negatives. The usual recommendation is to wait until 14 days after ovulation before testing. Blood serum pregnancy tests performed by your doctor are much more sensitive. They can detect hCG levels as low as five. If you continue to experience pregnancy symptoms, but your home pregnancy test continues to show negative, you can make an appointment with your doctor to confirm your pregnancy.

Missed Period

One of the most common pregnancy signs is a missed period. For women with a standard 28-day cycle, their period is late if it has not arrived fifteen days after ovulation, or twenty-nine days after the first day of their cycle. Elevated basal body temperatures for 15 or more days will typically accompany the missed period.

Frequent Urination

Frequent urination is a very common early symptom of pregnancy. You may find yourself unable to be away from a bathroom for more than hour at a time, or waking up in the middle of the night to urinate.

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness can begin as early as 2 to 4 weeks after conception. The term morning sickness is something of a misnomer, as you can experience the nausea and vomiting throughout the day. Morning sickness typically is worst during the first trimester, and most pregnant women will have their morning sickness symptoms lessen or subside completely during the second or third trimester.

Breast Changes

Breast tenderness usually begins around 3 to 4 weeks after conception. This can also be a sign of your impending period. Usually the degree of breast tenderness is much stronger with pregnancy than with your period. You may also notice a slight tingling sensation.

Another change to your breasts early in pregnancy is the appearance. Your areolas can become larger and darker.

Fatigue

Fatigue can be an early sign of pregnancy. This symptom is not just being a little tired; it is more like feeling totally wiped out. Your normal daily activities can send you to complete exhaustion.

Body Discomforts

The physical and hormonal changes you experience with pregnancy can cause a long list of body changes that are annoying and uncomfortable. You may experience headaches, backaches, acne, constipation, heartburn, mood swings, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, indigestion, and abdominal cramps.

Food Cravings

Food cravings are a very common pregnancy symptom. Approximately 85% of women will experience some type of food craving during their pregnancy.

Food Aversions

The other side of food cravings is food aversions. They are also a very common sign of early pregnancy. You may find that a favorite food suddenly makes you feel nauseated just thinking about it.

Smell Aversions

A heightened sense of smell may cause some odors to seem stronger than normal when you are pregnant. Some smell aversions can cause food aversions.

Baby Movement

You can feel your baby moving as early as 16 weeks, but for first-time mothers may not feel the baby moving until 20 weeks or more.

Intuition

For some women, they just “feel” pregnant, even though they have had no other signs or symptoms. A mother’s intuition is frequently accurate.

It is possible to experience some of the signs and symptoms of pregnancy, yet still not be pregnant. It is important that both you and your baby get under a doctor’s care as early as possible. If you think you might be pregnant, treat your body as if you are pregnant until you know for sure. Take a home pregnancy test if you miss your period. If the test shows positive, then you are pregnant. Congratulations!

Men and Candida

Most people think of fungal yeast infections or Candida albicans (also known as Thrush and Balanitis) as a female issue, however, men frequently develop the condition. Candida in men occurs in the groin area; it can cause soreness, itching, and redness of the head of the penis, scrotum, and foreskin. Often times, small white spots on the penis, burning sensations during intercourse, and transient rashes may identify the ailment. Due to the fact that Candida thrives in warm, sweaty, and irritated skin, uncircumcised men are actually more likely to develop Candida. In some cases, the foreskin even swells and cracks due to the yeast allergy. In addition, not only does, the fungal yeast thrive on the high sugar content found in men with diabetes, it can also result as an allergic reaction to perfumes, dyes, soaps, and shower gels.

There is some debate in the medical and holistic healthcare communities whether or not Candida is a sexually transmitted disease (STD.) The reason being that many people already have a small amount of it in their bodies. It is actually more common in men who are not sexually active, but the infection can be passed on through sex. If a man has a male sexual partner, condoms with nonoxynol-9 added to the lubricant may contribute to anal yeast infection. In heterosexual intercourse, men may develop Balanitis if their female sexual partner has a yeast infection.

Balanitis is treated traditionally with prescription anti-fungal cream and medications, however; alternative therapies are readily available. Because Candida multiplies rapidly in dark and moist environments, clothing which allows for good body ventilation is recommended. All clothing worn next to the skin should be removed and washed after each wearing. During treatment for a yeast infection, sexual intercourse should be avoided; also, any activity which might result in excessive exertion or sweating is not advised until the condition is relieved. After swimming or spending a long amount of time in water, bathing suits should be changed as soon as possible. The genital area should be kept clean and showers are preferable over bathing in bathtubs.

Plain unscented soaps are highly encouraged for bathing, as are warm sitz baths infused with several drops of Tea Tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia). On an internal note, drinking pure, unsweetened cranberry juice, diluted with water may keep the urinary tract of the penis clear while the external skin heals. Also, the avoidance of milk, mushrooms, caffeine, sugar and bread is also recommended. Some holistic practitioners suggest the ingestion of raw garlic. One should first seek alternative medical consultation before ingestion, due to the heating nature of garlic and its indigestion-causing properties.

Change of Heart at Menopause

Menopause is a season with massive change not just in the numbers of the household but most importantly the beginning of a new marital structure is usually needed when younger members move out. Even the removal of one will dramatically change the personality of the home.

The husband or male partner may be head of the household but a huge degree of unspoken responsibility will rest on the shoulders of the menopausal lady. At this point the menopause is a major sign for renovation, restoration and changes within the relationship.

Both partners will be different in personality in many ways to the early days relationship. Old and well loved traits may have been lost in the mire of domestic challenge and achievement.

New, not so popular traits may be growing major features in the senior members of the household. These are often not overlooked and instantly forgiven. They can become the basis for a separation that can grow much faster with only two between the four walls.

At this point it may not be possible to organize a serious one-on-one dialogue about what needs to be changed. Identification of specific problems is a starting point with the recognition of issues of major concern.
