One does not have to be a teacher or educator to get the benefit of reading education news. Students can stay in the know about education and its current trends as well. News on education through many sources will offer information on the issues that affect the world of teaching and learning. Reading the current events will follow developments as they happen and keeps readers abreast of issues pertaining to colleges, tuition, faculty, admission processes, online learning, career colleges and many other things related to higher education. Though education news can often be found as part of larger publications, there are websites and colleges that offer their own independent versions as well.
When an individual wants information on a certain area of education or just wants to read the opinions of others on a subject, online news regarding education is a great option. It can offer views and insights from those in the inner circle of the industry that might not be available elsewhere. It is also a good place to find web seminars, job resources, downloads and educational consultants. Those mapping out a career during their education or after graduation will need a good resource they can count on. Many find the news regarding education that is found online to have many valuable resources.

Key To Memory Improvement Is Timely Revision
Regular revision improves your memory and gives you a better
understanding of the subject. You should aim to do such general
revision scientifically during the semester that will be
discussed little later. Remember revision involves attempting
questions, writing out definitions, proofs, drawing diagrams
etc. and not just reading your notes over and over again.
Use your original revision notes to check where there are gaps
in your notes. Check your answers by using the original notes.
Fill in forgotten facts with another color pen. Repeat the
process until all the gaps have disappeared.
It is the quality of your revision that is important not the
quantity. Do not kid yourself that if you are reading something
you are revising it; you need to be actively reading in order to
use your study time constructively. Keep a record of your
productivity, not just how long your revision sessions last.
Planning The Revision
At least 3 weeks before the exams start, draw up an exam
timetable and revision plan and stick to it. A good starting
point is to summarize the notes you have on each topic. You
should try to reduce your notes to key words and phrases. This
will form the basis of your revision notes. You can reduce your
notes further so that information fits on one side of an A-4
page or an index card. Use diagrammatical notes if you remember
material more easily in a visual form.
Revision Strategies
You have to chalk out an effective revision strategy for
sharpening your memory, given below are few tips for effective
revision: -

China trade shows are common but China Sourcing Fair the host of
the upcoming trade show in China is set to give away hotel
accommodations in Hong Kong to lucky china tradeshows attendees.
Attend the China Sourcing Fair for Fashion Accessories or the
China Sourcing Fair for Electronics & Components this year and
you could win free hotel accommodations in Hong Kong for the
event. Going to a China Trade Show is something that many people
haven’t done due the distance and cost to attend, but this years
China Sourcing Fair which is being held for the first time in
Hong Kong making it easier for people to attend.
Even I was thinking about going down to the event, but was
reluctant until I realized that attendance of this China Trade
Show is free. In addition by registering for the trade show I am
eligible to win free accommodations in Hong Kong. “Hotels in
Hong Kong are very costly especially when an event like this
happens”, said David Green, the manager of my local
import/export committee. David Green was very pleased to see
that China Sourcing Fair is willing to give away accommodations
to one lucky china trade show attendee.
There are two shows that China Sourcing Fair is putting on, the
one is Fashion Accessories trade show,
http://tradeshow.globalsources.com/TRADESHW/HONGKONG-FASHION.HTM
and the other is the Electronics & Components trade show,
http://tradeshow.globalsources.com/TRADESHW/HONGKONG-ELECTRONICS.
HTM it appears what their offer is if you register for either of
these tradeshows in China then you are eligible to win one of
their 6 prizes, I’m hoping to win the free hotel accommodations
in Hong Kong during the China tradeshow.
Winner or not, I look forward to attending these trade show in
China. For more information on the China Sourcing Fair and their
other tradeshows in China you can visit:

What is e-learning? According to Cari Mathwig, interactive team
leader and Instructional Designer at The AVS Group, “Maybe the
question should be, ‘What is not e-learning?’”
According to the American Society for Training and Development
(ASTD), “e-learning is a wide set of applications and processes
used for the purpose of learning,” including those that are Web-
and computer- based, virtual classrooms, NetMeetings, satellite
or fiber-optic-connected classrooms, e-mail, bulletin boards, or
chat rooms. The delivery mediums may be the Internet, Intranet
or Extranet (LAN/WAN), audio and videotape, satellite broadcast,
interactive TV, or CD-ROM.
In a time when computers and classrooms are merging, e-learning
has quickly gone from buzzword to a regular part of the
vocabulary in the business world. The key now is to know how to
use it.
To use e-learning effectively, you need to ask yourself the
following questions. The answers to those questions will
determine how e-learning can best fit your needs.
Question #1: What is the goal?
“You can’t do anything without a goal or objective,” notes
Mathwig. “The goal determines everything, including the topic,
the information presented, how the information is presented, and
if participants are accountable for learning the information.”
“Many people do this backwards by starting the process with the
information that is to be presented,” Mathwig adds, “but a goal
still needs to be determined in order to establish the rationale
for presenting the information.”
Question #2: Who is the audience?
The medium used should meet the needs of the audience to better
accomplish the goal. Some questions that one should ask about
the audience include:
1. Where is the audience located?
2. Are they spread out or in one location?
3. What technologies does the audience have available to them?
4. What is the audience’s level of technical expertise?
Question #3: What resources are available?
Resources include time, talent, and budget. This will also
determine which medium is used. For example, if there are two
days to prepare, you need to consider what can be done in two
days to accomplish the goal.
Available resources can be a big factor in how sophisticated the
e-learning can be. The more sophisticated the
e-learning–applications that include animated demonstrations,
simulations that allow participants to practice what they have
learned, or assessment and learning management–the higher the
costs.
“The return on investment from a well-planned and well-developed
e-learning program is high and well worth considering,” Mathwig
adds. “In any case, the capabilities of the delivery medium
versus the goals must be assessed.”
So, which medium is best for e-learning? “Any electronic medium
has its own advantages and disadvantages and should be used
based upon its effectiveness, costs (in terms of both time and
money), and ultimately the return on investment,” says Mathwig.

For a top score on the GED math test, it’s critical to learn the
Casio fx-260 calculator, since it’s the calculator used for the
official General Education Development Test. It’s a good idea to
get hands-on practice with this Casio, and to understand which
calculator functions the test expects you to know.
The Casio fx-260 is used for Part 1 of the two-part math test,
which covers basic algebra and geometry, data analysis and basic
number operations. Each one of the two parts has 25 questions,
with 45 minutes slotted, or 90 minutes total allowed for the
entire GED math test. The Casio fx-260 is distributed by the
test site center for Part 1 of the test, and then collected
before part 2. Calculators can’t be used for Part 2.
About the Casio Calculator
This Casio is a scientific calculator. It’s more advanced than
the simpler or more basic calculator models most adults use to
balance their checkbooks or to add a grocery bill while
shopping. Many of today’s high schoolers and even college
graduates aren’t familiar with the advanced calculators and
multiple functions of scientific calculators used in today’s
technology, science and for advanced financial operations. So
calculator skills aren’t just important for GED students;
knowledge of scientific calculators is important to everyone
engaged in today’s rapidly changing technological society.
Here are some basics to understand about the Casio fx-260 for
the GED math test:
– Learn the location of the keys.
– Learn the functions that the keys perform.
– Use the On button to reset the calculator, or to clear the
memory.
– How to use the Clear and All Clear buttons or functions.
– Using number keys 0-9, and basic operation keys for addition,
multiplication, subtraction and division.
– Learning the location of the decimal point key, equals and
percent, and how and when each is used.
– Using the Shift key to change other keys to alternate
functions.
– How the Change Sign and Fraction keys work, and when to use
them.
– How the Square and Square Root keys work, and when to use
them.
– The ‘Parenthesis’ keys are important, since these keys are
used to control the order of mathematical operations.
– Understanding the keys to raise numbers to another power, and
for exponentials — ‘EXP’ key — used in scientific notation.
Does it look complicated? Sure, and the Casio calculator used
for the GED test has additional functions that can be used for
highly complex mathematical functions.
But don’t worry. While it seems like a lot to learn, the test
requires only basic knowledge and application of a few
functions. And this knowledge will actually help test candidates
solve the test’s more complicated problems, and in less time.
The Casio fx-260 is worth learning. Understanding goes a long
way toward reducing “math anxiety,” improving the final GED Test
math score and gaining the skills needed in today’s
technological society.

Choice Theory
You have listened to me for a year now talking about Choice
Theory but I know I’ve never really explained what Choice Theory
is. Choice Theory is actually an explanation of all human
behavior developed by Dr. William Glasser.
There are basically five components of this theory–the basic
human needs, the quality world, the perceived world, the
comparing place and total behavior. I’ll give a brief overview
of each one, starting with the five basic human needs.
The Basic Human Needs We are born with five basic human
needs–survival, love & belonging, power, freedom and fun. We
are all born with these needs but we experience them to varying
degrees. One person might have a high love & belonging need,
while another person is high in freedom. We are born with these
needs and are biologically driven to get them met in the best
way available to us.
The Quality World This is a place that exists inside all of us
where we store pictures of things that have satisfied one or
more of our basic needs in the past or things we think may
satisfy them in the future. These things do not have to meet
society’s definition of quality. Alcohol is in the quality world
of an alcoholic, steeling cars in the quality world of a car
thief, and domestic violence is in the quality world of a
batterer. The only two requirements for entry into the quality
world are that it meets one or more of our needs and it feels
good.
The Perceived World There is much to be said about the perceived
world but for the purposes of this article, all I want to say is
that we each have our own perceptions of the world. Our sensory
system takes in information through sight, touch, sound, taste
and scent, however we all have unique ways of processing that
information based on our life experiences, our culture, and our
values.
The main thing to remember about the perceived world is that if
you encounter others whose perceived world doesn’t match yours,
it doesn’t mean one of you is wrong. It simply means you are
different. Remembering this simply statement will reduce much of
the disagreements and fighting that occurs in people’s lives.
Acceptance of this fact would mean we could give up the need to
convince others of our point of view. We could simply accept the
fact that we see things differently and move on.
The Comparing Place The comparing place is where we weigh what
we want from our quality world against our perceptions of what
we believe we are actually getting. When these two things are a
match, all is well.
However, when our perceptions and quality world don’t line up,
in other words we perceive we are not in possession of the
things we want, then we are driven to action to get those things
we are thinking about. People generally don’t make a lot of
progress or change the things they are currently doing unless
they are in some degree of discomfort–the greater the pain the
more motivation to try something different.
This is where conventional wisdom tells us that if we want
what’s best for other people in our lives, then it is our
responsibility to raise their pain level to get them to do
things differently because we generally know what’s best for
them. Right?
Wrong. We can only know what’s best for ourselves. Remember, our
perceived worlds are all different. We have unique values and
experiences. How can we possibly know what’s best for someone
else when we haven’t been in their skin or lived their life? We
can only know what’s best for ourselves.
Total Behavior There are two main things about behavior. One is
that all behavior is purposeful and two is that all behavior is
total. Let’s begin with the idea that all behavior is total.
There are four inseparable components of behavior–action,
thinking, feeling and physiology. These all exist simultaneously
during any given behavior in which we engage. The first two
components–acting and thinking–are the only components over
which we can have direct control. This means that if we want to
change how we are feeling or something that is happening in our
bodies (physiology), then we must first consciously change what
we are doing or how we are thinking.
As for all behavior being purposeful, all behavior is our best
attempt to get something we want. We are never acting in
response to some external stimulus. We are always acting
proactively to get something we want. This means that when I
would yell at my son to clean his room after asking him nicely
several times, I wasn’t yelling because my son “made me mad.” I
was yelling because I was still using my best attempt to get him
to do what I wanted, which was to clean his room. This seems
like I’m splitting hairs but it’s an important distinction to
make when you are attempting to move from a victim’s role to
that of an empowered person.
The Implications Choice Theory pretty much rids us of the idea
that people are “misbehaving.” All anyone is doing is their best
attempt to get something they want. Of course in the process,
they may break laws, disregard rules and hurt others but those
are really side effects of doing the best they know how to get
their needs met. We are all doing our best–some of us simply
have better tools, resources and behaviors at our disposal than
others.
If we embrace Choice Theory’s concepts, then our function should
be more to educate and help others self-evaluate the
effectiveness of their own behavior. Know that often they will
continue to do things exactly as they have because it’s familiar
and/or because what they are doing really is getting them
something they want. It is not our job to stop them, nor is it
our job to rescue them from the consequences of their own
behavior.
We can only make our best attempt to help others evaluate the
effectiveness of their behavior and to choose a different way
that perhaps is not against the rules or doesn’t hurt the person
or someone else. Then, we need to get out of the way and let the
situation play out. This may seem hard to do–like you aren’t
doing your job as a parent, teacher, counselor, or supervisor,
however, I ask, what is the alternative?
When you attempt to force or coerce or bribe another person to
do things he or she doesn’t want to do, you may be successful.
You may be able to find the right reward or create a painful
enough consequence to get another person to do what you want but
in so doing you are breeding resentment and contempt. Your
relationship will suffer. If you believe, as I do, that
relationship is the root of all influence, then you are losing
your ability to influence another by using external control.
If you have enjoyed this article and want to learn more about
it, you should check out my Choice Theory Special Report. This
report will expand on the information provided in this condensed
article version. To purchase this report go to

The Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences, is a magnificent arts venue dedicated to Queen Victoria’s husband and consort, Prince Albert. Since its opening by Queen Victoria on March 29, 1871 after a welcoming speech by Edward, the Prince of Wales (the Queen being too emotional to speak) the Royal Albert Hall has played host to a multitude of different events and legendary figures and has been affectionately titled ‘The Nation’s Village Hall’. As well as hosting the Proms every summer, the Hall has been used for classical and rock concerts, conferences, ballroom dancing, poetry recitals, education, ballet, opera and the legendary circus, Cirque du Soleil.
Designed by Captain Francis Fowke and Colonel H.Y. Darracott Scott of the Royal Engineers, heavily influenced by ancient amphitheatres, the Hall was constructed mainly of Fareham Red brick, with terra cotta block decoration. The dome (designed by Rowland Mason Ordish) on top was made of steel and glazed. This Grade I listed building is oval in shape, measuring 83m (272 feet) by 72m (238 feet) around the outside, and has a capacity of 8,000 people and has accommodated as many as 9,000, although due to modern safety restrictions the maximum permitted capacity is now 7,000. The breathtaking glass and iron dome roofing the hall is 41 m (135 feet) high. Around the outside of the hall is a stunning terra cotta frieze, depicting “The Triumph of Arts and Sciences”, in reference to the hall’s dedication.
The Hall has more recently undergone a rolling programme (1996 - 2004) of renovation and development to enable it to meet the demands of the next century of events and performances. The works included a major refurbishment of the pipe organ by Manders of London and the construction of a new south porch in the same style as the preexisting porches.
The Royal Albert hall has a long and rich history as one of the world’s leading entertaining venues. Since its opening in 1871 over 150,000 performances have taken place inside the auditorium. Now this internationally renowned venue is used as a live music venue.

Most browsers use search engines and directories to search for
information on the internet. And therefore search engines are an
effective way of acquiring visitors to your website. But good
rankings in search engines, you’ll need the help of a web
content writing service to write key word rich quality web
content. And one way to do this is to outsource your Web Content
writing to India. But, if you want to make sure your visitors
keep coming back for more, then you need good quality web
content.
The first part of the this process is getting more visitors to
your website through search engine promotion and other
conventional marketing methods. And the better your website
content, the higher your chances. For this you’ve to increase
the visibility of your web site. A common technique that these
web content writing companies in India, often, use to ensure
good ranking in search engines is to write articles pertaining
to your site’s topic. And keeping an archive of such articles on
your website will help build your knowledge base. And anyone
searching for information on the topics that you’ve written
about in your web site will find your articles listed in their
search engine results. And the chances are that they’ll probably
buy something from you once they visit your web site.
And with increased visibility, more visitors will come to see at
least to see what this hype is all about. The second part is the
more difficult one: keeping the visitors interested and making
them come back for more. For this to happen, you need to provide
quality web information on your web site. And for this, the best
option is to seek the help of offshore web content writing
services that are easy to access. Quality website content will
go a long way in increasing a web site’s search engine
visibility. It’ll also improve the site’s conversion rate.
Quality website content means happy visitors, which in turn
means a web site recognized as an authority and with good
ranking in the search engines.
Then, the key here is web content. So, for good quality web
content, you’ll need the help of a good web content writing
service in India. And the best way to decide if the web content
writing service is any good is to take a look at some samples of
the kind of work that they’ve done. One thing that you need to
check to see is, if the content is relevant to your web site.
The content should have an apparent pertinence, suitability and
purpose, to the topic at hand. Another important thing to keep
in mind with regard to web content writing is that the
information provided in your web site should be reliable, and
linked to reputable external resources.
Also, all the information that a visitor to your web site
requires should be easily retrievable via the main body content,
“site search” text entry box, site map, site index, or plainly
and sensibly categorized archives.

A true love story
“So, was it an eyes-meet-across-the-room-thing and you knew you were destined for each other instantly?” I asked my Mom. “No,” she laughed, “it was a swinging-door-thing and once we met, then we knew it was destiny.”
It was 1946 when my parents met in postwar Oldenburg, Germany while working for British Intelligence. Dad (a.k.a. Peter Russell) had survived WW II after being in many challenging battles. He was a “frightfully English chap” who grew up in the south of England. Mom (Blanche Moore - a.k.a. Pat Russell) had experienced the war in a different way. One of the many bombing raids on Belfast, Northern Ireland had demolished her family home.
It only took Dad one week after he saw Mom going through the now infamous swinging door into the Intelligence Offices, to make sure he was introduced to her. Once they met, they were inseparable and spent many hours dancing at the Officers Club in Oldenburg. Mom and Dad were known for being fabulous ballroom dancers and other dance participants would frequently stand aside and watch them together as they swirled around the dance floor, eyes locked on one another.. Dad was a lean, good-looking man of 6′ and he was handsome in his British Intelligence Uniform. Mom was and still is a petite 5′ 2″ pretty Irish woman with twinkly eyes and a penchant for laughing a lot.
As they danced together, Dad would sing (in German):
“Do you remember the precious time when we came together for life,
My heart sang a little melody for you day and night.
Do you remember that beautiful time?
Even though youth will fade, songs of love will always stay.
Should fate ever darken your happiness,
My song will always light it up for you.”
They were the first British couple to be married in Oldenburg after the war. They were transferred to the village of Brake on the Weser River in Germany as a husband/wife team with British Intelligence specializing in political and counter intelligence. Dad had a network of agents under his supervision. He and his agents contributed to the break up of the Communist party in that area of Germany. “Peter and Pat’s” cover for being in post war Germany was the interrogation of returning prisoners of war from Russia.
But at night their real work would begin. Dad would direct and rendezvous with various agents in the field. Another agent, would cautiously make his way back to Mom with stolen documents. This home rendezvous would usually happen after midnight with Mom waiting nervously for the agent to arrive. She would then translate and type the information immediately, so that it could be sent to the head office of British Intelligence in London, England. It was a tense and nerve wracking time.
“Do you hear my secret calling
Open up your sweet loving heart,
When you have longingly thought of me tonight.
Then I will be with you in your dream
Let me look at you once again
Show me your much loved face
Then turn off the light
My heart will not forget you
Please go to sleep”
Dad died in 1989 in Salmon Arm, seven years after retiring as a Special Agent for the Canadian National Railroad Police in Prince George. As well as being named Citizen of the Year in 1972, he was also the recipient of the Governor General’s award for his contribution to the youth of that city.
In the years since his death, Mom had searched for their special song. She wrote to CBC radio, and she had asked people she met who were of German descent if they had heard of the song. She was nearly ready to give up until eight months ago. She was in “Styles on Mane” in Vernon having her hair done, when a gentleman came in to have his hair cut. As he had a German accent, Mom asked him if he had heard of the song. He said he hadn’t, but promised to look into it for her. (His name is Julius and he is the neighbour and good friend of the owner of the shop, Cynthia Robertson)
One month later, Mom went to her weekly hair appointment. As she sat down, Cynthia turned to her friend Julius who was in the shop and said, “Julius, I forgot to turn on the radio today. Would you turn it on for me please?”
Soon the beautiful words of the song “Do You Hear My Secret Calling” were being played throughout the salon. Julius Topf had contacted friends in Germany and with the help of a popular newspaper columnist the song had been found on a CD of hit songs from 1934 to 1943. Mom was completely overwhelmed with happiness when she heard the song again after 50 years.
My parents shared the special kind of intense and enduring love alluded to in this lovely song. It was their heart song. Now she can close her eyes as she listens to the music and from her memory bank, imagine that she is back on the dance floor, being tenderly held in the arms of her beloved as he sang to her.
“Just as autumn and spring will always be,
So will sorrow and joy forever change the earth.
Every hour of sadness is followed by a day of sunshine,
Every parting is followed by a new embrace.
Storms in life will pass as long as we will understand each other.
When your heart fills with sorrow, quietly sing my song again.”
