In Cape May, New Jersey, at Sunset Beach on the shore of Delaware Bay you can see
the sunken wreck of the World War One concrete ship, Atlantus. She lies there, half
submerged, a few hundred feet offshore. The weather worn wreck is all that remains
of an experimental World War I concrete freighter. She was towed there in 1926 to
be intentionally sunk as a breakwater and protection for the entrance to the then
new, Cape May Canal. During a sudden storm on Delaware Bay, she broke free of
the towboats and was washed into the shallow water a mile or more west of her
intended resting place near the Canal.
As it happens, this un-natural, man-made barrier is the happy accident that makes
Cape May Diamonds available to you. Here is what we believe to be the origin of
these unique Cape May Diamonds:
It has been estimated the journey of a Cape May Diamond begins when some quartz
rocks fall from a Pennsylvania mountain into the Delaware River. This is thought to
happen at or near Delaware Water Gap, in the upper reaches of Delaware River.
Over time, the pebbles are washed, ever so slowly, past: Trenton, Palmyra, Camden
and Philadelphia and finally to the broad reaches of the shallow, muddy Delaware
Bay.
Here, on the pebble-filled shoreline of Sunset Beach, you can search for Cape May
Diamonds. What you will find are clear quartz crystals that, after being polished,
look like diamonds to the untrained eye. It is believed that the sunken ship has
become a barrier that diverts the tides and currents carrying the Cape May
Diamonds from the mountains of Pennsylvania toward the Atlantic Ocean. In this
way, the journey of the quartz pebbles is changed and they are washed ashore here
instead of flowing into the nearby ocean. Scientists estimate it can take over 1,000
years for a pebble to move approximately 200 miles, from the mountains of
Pennsylvania to its final resting place on Sunset Beach, in Cape May New Jersey.
The largest Cape May Diamond ever found weighed almost eight ounces. Nearby gift
shops sell polished Cape May Diamonds, but it’s more fun to search the beaches
around Cape May for your own “diamonds.” Buff them to a shine and you’ll dupe
your friends at home into thinking you’ve hit the mother lode.

When in doubt jewelry is the perfect gift! There are few gift items for any occasion that have the lasting appeal of jewelry. From semi-precious stones in avant-garde settings to fine gems stones in estate settings there are really no other gifts that as accurately convey real caring. Cash may be crass but jewelry has real value and still has aesthetic worth.
Some occasions seem to be the wrong place for jewelry gifts but on second thought there are still jewelry options. For instance it may seem that only the bride and groom can give jewelry to each other at a wedding but that isn’t true. The bride may opt to give earrings or pendants as thank-you gifts to her bridesmaids and the groom may want to give a tie clasp or money clip to the best man.
Also weddings gifts for the bridal couple can be found in jewelry departments. Metallic gilded crystal items are popular bridal registry items. Many china patterns have metallic and are frequently included in jewelry stores. At any rate silver and silver plate are to be found on most bridal registries.
At bridal showers for couples who truly have everything that money can buy commemorative jewelry items are lifelong keepsakes. Baby rings, silver spoons, and silver plate rattles enter the family treasure chest with the birth of each child and are kept for generations.
It may seem that young children should not be given jewelry which may be true because of choking hazards but for school aged children there are many important jewelry gifts. These may be charm bracelets that grow with each birthday or religious metals.
The obvious jewelry gift items can not be over done. Couples complain about too many toasters but anniversary rings will always be appreciated, as well as necklaces, anklets, bracelets, earrings and so on.

You want to buy a diamond, but know nothing about cut, clarity, carat (or carrots?) and color. You have no idea whether the sales clerk in the jewelry shop next to the shoe store in the mall really knows what they are talking about or if they are just trying to make a large commission.
And it is really tough to find someone to give you the right answers about diamond buying and help you understand why some diamonds are better than others. How much can you really buy with your hard-earned money?
Okay, maybe you have heard of the 4-C’s; cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. You may have even heard that you should get a GIA certified loose diamond. So, are you armed and ready to go out and purchase the diamond from the local mall store? I mean, you know that that if the diamond is clearer and has a better color and a bunch of carats and is cut right, certainly that is all there is to it right?
Well… not exactly.
Diamond grading is not as simple as the sales clerk would have you believe.
The first difficulty lies in your ability to confirm the color, cut and clarity grades assigned to your stone. You see, many people have heard of the 4-C’s, but being able to confirm that the grade for each that was assigned to the stone is accurate is a totally different story. How do you know that it is accurate without paying extra for an outside appraisal?
Note for clarification: the GIA Gem Trade Lab does NOT certify diamonds and does not provide a GIA Certified Loose Diamond Report.
The GIA will grade a stone and provide a written grade for that stone, but no certification.
By using the services of trained Graduate Gemologists from the Gemological Institute of America who have both the knowledge and experience and the proper instruments to evaluate your stone, you can be assured of accurate grading.
You see just knowing about the 4-C’s could mean that you spend more on a diamond than the diamond is really worth and we don’t want you to do that!
Here are some things to be aware of when buying a diamond
*Anyone saying that they have a GIA Certified Loose Diamond Report
*How do you know that the paper that someone shows you belongs to that particular stone?
*Someone who cannot evaluate whether a report is accurate (i.e. Not a gemologist)
If someone claims to have a “certification” it should be a red flag that they either do not know what they are talking about, (and should be avoided for lack of expertise), or are trying to pull a fast one, (and should be avoided for the obvious reasons).
Let’s get back, however, to your “certification”, even if you have a grading report from the GIA, (or some other reputable lab), how do you know it is accurate? As good as the GIA is the fact remains that people do make mistakes, and that kind of mistake can cost you a lot of money. How do you even know this paper belongs to the stone you have?
You need a professional to help you. A gemologist can evaluate your stone, and any papers that come with it, and confirm the grade and associated quality of your stone to provide you the assurance you deserve regarding the diamond you are purchasing.
A qualified gemologist can do much more than just evaluate the accuracy of a report, however.
If you are like most people, you probably have to adhere to a budget and you want to get the most for you money…you want the biggest, and best diamond that you can afford. This is where the qualified gemologist can help you and a sales clerk cannot. The experienced gemologist can help you determine the qualities in a diamond that are important to you. Whether size of the stone is most important, or if quality in the form of the other 3-C’s, (color, clarity, or cut), are more important.
A easier way to think of this is as follows: Pick two of the following three selections
Large
Quality
Inexpensive
You can pick any two but only two. Thus, you can have large and quality, but not inexpensive. Or you can have quality and cheap, but not large. Or you can have cheap and large, but not quality.

A dress without accessories is like a Christmas tree without ornaments: beautiful but oddly naked. Celebrities and their stylists know that carefully selected accessories can make or break an outfit. Coordinated accoutrements can tie your look together, creating a pleasing “package,” while clashing pieces can distract the eye and throw off your entire look.
While it’s difficult to decide which of the myriad wonderful accessories to wear, you don’t need a celebrity stylist to get it right, as long as you keep the following time-tested tips in mind. And remember: less is more. Wear too many accessories and nothing will get noticed, except the fact that you piled too much on.
Prom Jewelry
The most obvious prom accessory, jewelry, is easy to get right if you consider two things: your hairstyle and your dress. (Personal style counts, too, but only you know what suits you. Choose pieces you’d wear after prom and you won’t go wrong.) Think also of color. Try not to match your dress exactly, but rather choose colors that compliment your ensemble. For example, a green dress will look great with deep blue or black gemstone jewelry. When in doubt, wear diamonds or pearls—they look great with everything! My personal favorites are freshwater pearls. In addition to white, freshwater pearls come in many beautiful pastel colors, like lavender, peach, pink and yellow that complement a variety of fabrics. Freshwater pearls are also surprisingly affordable.
Jewelry and Prom Hairstyle
Your prom hairstyle plays a major role in the type of earrings that work. If your hair is short or will be in an updo, you have tons of great earring options. Pearl, diamond and gemstone studs are always elegant, and have the added bonus of allowing you to choose a bolder necklace. Drop earrings look great too, and are sweetly feminine. If you choose a bolder earring, like a stiletto or chandelier style, keep other jewelry simple. The same goes for hair ornaments.
If your hair is long and you’re wearing it down, you need an earring that can make a statement. Consider big bold gemstones or dangling hoops or a chandelier or stiletto style. (Think Reese Witherspoon, Queen Latifah and Jessica Alba at the Oscars.) Just don’t overdo it by wearing a bold necklace or bracelet. One standout piece of jewelry is sufficient.
Jewelry and Prom Dress…
• Spaghetti straps: You have tons of great jewelry options here, but again, you want to pick subtle jewelry or one standout piece. Consider a wide pearl cuff bracelet and a pearl ring, or pearl, diamond, or gemstone dangle earrings and a diamond or pearl pendant. A bezel set diamond—or CZ—works well with a spaghetti-strapped dress. Just make sure, if you’re wearing a great bracelet, that your date doesn’t get you a wrist corsage.
• Strapless: The majority of prom 2006 dress styles are strapless. That’s good news for jewelry lovers, as your prom necklace can really stand out. Choose something short to accent your collarbones like a princess length pearl strand or a diamond or pearl pendant. Don’t wear a necklace that comes to the top of the bodice; you don’t want the fabric and the jewelry to compete. If the necklace you choose is simple, consider adding bold earrings or a bracelet for added pizzazz.
• Cap- or short-sleeved: Play up your arms and balance out the dress’ sleeves with tons of thin stackable bracelets (I love wood, shell and enamel, but not all together, of course). Pick a simple necklace and earrings, or go without. If bangles drive you nuts while you dance, skip them and choose a wide cuff instead.
• High-necked: Lose the necklace (it’ll compete) and instead pair a high necked dress with a simple pair of earrings and an elegant bracelet in the same stone. Or stack several bracelets in lieu of a wrist corsage. Remember to choose a piece that won’t compete with the bold neckline of this dress. Shoulder-grazing earrings are an option here if they suit the dress’s style. They’ll be dramatic and sophisticated for sure!
• Square-necked: A square-necked dress is the best setting to show off a beautiful necklace. Borrow Mom’s pearls or Grandma’s diamond pendant, buy freshwater pearls in a color that complements your dress, or choose a bold gemstone piece if the dress is jewel toned. Play it up here, but keep other prom accessories simple.
• V-necked: Matching necklace and earrings can pull your look together very well, as the V draws attention to your face and collarbones. For no-brainer options, choose a pearl set or a simple bezel-set diamond pendant and stud earrings.
• Plunging: Consider pinning a vintage brooch at the bottom of the plunge, or adorning yourself with a pearl choker, diamond collar or a plain ribbon. Don’t wear a longer necklace as it’ll detract from the plunge. Keep earrings simple.
• Simple: Lucky you! A simple prom dress such as a sheath, allows you to get a lot funkier with your accessories. The layered look is still hot, so consider piling on a few long gold chains with shorter pearl necklaces, or pearl-and-chain combos. A sparkly diamond cuff, a la Hilary Swank at the Oscars, (go faux!) always looks chic. Remember that you’ll be dancing, so no extra long pearl ropes as you’ll risk whipping your fellow prom goers.
• Ornate: An ornate dress is a work of art. Depending on the style and level of detail, you may want to choose a simple piece of jewelry, such as a diamond pendant, pearl necklace, simple gold chain or pearl, diamond or gold studs. Stay away from glittery jewelry that will compete with the dress. If the neckline is high and bejeweled, opt out of jewelry entirely and consider pinning something sparkly in your hair instead. A bold, chunky cocktail ring can work wonders here too.
• Vintage: Make it modern with multiple strands or stacks of bangle bracelets or layered necklaces. I like a few shorter gold pieces layered with gold and pearl chains. But don’t go overboard: a dress that makes a statement should not be overwhelmed with jewelry. Depending on the dress, a beautiful pearl strand tied with ribbon or a simple pair of diamond studs can work too.
Remember, all top stylists worth their salt know that, when it comes to accessories, it’s best to stick with pieces that won’t overwhelm your look. The most important tip? Have a blast and keep in mind that getting ready for prom is almost always the best part, so savor every moment!

Necklaces are always very popular and fashionable pieces of jewelry. It doesn’t matter which generation you are in, the fact remains that necklaces always find a place amongst women’s fashion accessories. Among these necklaces will generally be pearls.
What comes to mind when we think pearl necklaces? To me, it has predominately been strings of white pearls or occasionally a string of pink pearls. Pearls though, come in a variety of shades – some of them being white, pink, black, silver, cream, gold, blue and dark green. The list of colors seem endless.
What kind of pearl necklaces are there? There are two types that come to mind. Firstly, you can have a necklace with one or more strings of pearls, white or colored. But have you stopped to think what beauty you can find in a different kind of pearl necklace, a necklace that will make it a unique pearl necklace?
Let’s take a look at what makes a pearl necklace unique and different. Imagine yourself wearing a beautiful necklace made from a combination of gemstones and pearls. Gemstones come in a wide array of choices – types of stones, colors and shapes. Team gemstones together with pearls into a necklace and the variety is immense. There is always a unique pearl necklace to suit your personal taste and the outfit you want to wear.
Unique pearl necklaces have the added advantage of being useful to team together with many different colors and styles of outfits and can be used also for either a formal or casual look. This makes them a very versatile piece of jewelry because you don’t have to keep your pearls just for a special occasion but makes them very practical for casual wear as well.
Let’s take a look at a few examples. Imagine natural shaped turquoise alternated with white pearls and fine beads. Another combination would be a blend of stones like baroque pearl, aquamarine, amethyst and rose quartz, giving a beautiful blend of colors in the cool shades. Black baroque pearl with India agate is a good choice to serve as an all round “go with anything” necklace.
When choosing pearls, keep in mind your skin coloring as well as the outfits you have to wear. By choosing your necklace colors like this, you can enhance your beauty and also the appearance of your outfit when you wear a unique pearl necklace as part of your accessories.

Bracelets are an inexpensive way to impress the right people.
We have Friendship bracelets, Family bracelets, donation bracelets, sex bracelets and many more. With companies like Lance Armstrong and Nike jumping in there, is going to be a lot more coming.
What are bracelets?
Bracelets are ornaments worn around wrists or upper arm. These are often called armlets when worn above elbow.
Bracelets have been used since a very long time but the style has definitely changed considerably.
Indian civilization has recorded wearing bracelets since 6th century.
Bracelets can be made using a variety of articles.
· Cloth
· Metal
· Rocks
· Wood
· Shells
· Stainless steel is commonly used.
· Nike and Lance Armstrong Companies use silicon now.
Also they are used for medical and identification purposes.
Here is how—
Patients with allergies, diabetes or who has a previous history of heart illness wear bracelets. Identifying these patients can be tough under emergencies and these bracelets can be extremely useful in saving a patients life sometimes.
Bracelets are more famous than wristbands and bangles and necklaces.
They can be made at home and commercially they are available for cheap.
Friendship bracelets are more famous among children and teens. They are given as a symbol of friendship. Usually embroidery threads or wool are used. By tradition they are not to removed voluntarily as any intentional removal will mean end of friendship.
They have to fall off naturally.
Another type of bracelets that are becoming popular are sex bracelets.
Various types are coming in everyday and they convey different messages from romance to sex.
Ankle bracelets have been and are used in courts for prisoners. They have been used on ankles of certain criminals on probation especially in the Pima county Superior court.

There is a certain delight that comes with the sight of rabbit jewelry. The motif is cute and cuddly, and the person wearing it may often be seen as fun to be with, whimsical and affectionate.
In this day and age, a person wearing rabbit jewelry was likely born in the year of the Rabbit, according to Chinese mythology. Actually, on the subject of the Chinese calendar, when we get down to technicalities, there is no Year of the Cat: legend has it that when the Lord Buddha was summoning the animals of the 12 major branches of the zodiac so he could give them unique talents, the Cat was unable to attend. Due to mix-ups over the centuries, some people born in the year of the Rabbit believe they were born on the year of the Cat.
People born in the year of the Rabbit –- and by extension, those who wear rabbit jewelry — are smart, articulate, talented, virtuous, tactful, and often sophisticated. They may often not settle for second best, but they are resourceful enough to whip up the “best” in case nothing in their environment readily provides it. They are clever in doing business and conscientious at work. However, they are mostly conventional, stay-at-home types, rarely adventurous and somewhat picky. Rabbits go well with other introspective stay-at-home types, like the sheep/goat, the pig, or the dog.
Rabbits are also popular pets in the United States. As rabbits are often kept in cages until such time as they are required for cuddling and fussing over, they are very easy to maintain. Also, they are very easy to breed, so if you know how to take proper care of your pets, you’ll have dozens of little furry balls of joy in no time!
Of course, it’s possible that a person who wears rabbit jewelry may also just really like rabbits. Whatever the case, wearing rabbit jewelry accentuates in a person the talents of the Chinese rabbit: resourceful, sensual, crafty, and loving.

Natural mined diamonds have been coming under a lot of heat recently. Award-winning journalist Cecil Adams sums it up the best in a recent article: “diamonds are a scam, pure and simple.” Most people in the new millennium understand that between the DeBeers diamond cartel, the issue of child labor in Third World diamond processing operations, and “blood diamonds” used to finance oppression and genocide in Third World African countries, not to mention your snooty and pretentious local jeweler, diamonds are just not worth the hassle, guilt, and let’s not forget thousands and thousands of questionably spent dollars.
Lately, new synthetic diamonds have come on the market that have all of the look, appeal, and glittering beauty of natural diamonds, but without the baggage, and at a fraction of the cost.
Since moissanite burst upon the scene in the late 90s, it has created quite a stir. Moissanite is gem-quality silicon carbide. The production of moissanite is a proprietary process and it is available only from C3 Inc, a division of Cree Research.
When moissanite was first introduced to the market it created a great deal of publicity. This was due to the fact that moissanite would often fool a jeweler into thinking it was a natural diamond. Both the Nova and 20/20 TV news shows did segments featuring hidden cameras showing jewelers fooled and embarrassed by moissanite. What was actually happening though was not quite so simple.
Jewelers generally rely on something called a “thermal-probe” to detect a fake diamond. Thermal probes work well with cubic zirconia, for instance. Moissanite, however, has a thermal conductivity that is very close to diamond. They were able to fool the older thermal probes. The fact of the matter is though; moissanite really just does not look that much like diamond. The two substances have radically different optical properties. These differences are clearly visible to the naked eye. It was obvious in both the Nova and 20/20 segments that the jewelers were clearly confused. They kept looking at the stone and then testing at and saying things like, “Well, I guess it must be real.” What they were really saying is “Well, I guess it must be real, but it sure is a weird looking diamond!”
Problems with Moissanite as a Diamond Stimulant
Anisotropy
Unlike natural diamonds, or some of the better quality synthetic diamonds like those available from Diamond Nexus Labs, (http://www.diamondnexuslabs.com) moissanite stones have an optical quality known as “hexagonal polytypic.” What this means is that moissanite is doubly-refractive. And because of this they create a strong visual effect known as “birefringence.” This is visually seen as a doubling of the stone’s back facets that creates a marked “drunk-vision” effect.
Dispersion
Moissanite has a dispersive power nearly 2.5 times greater than that of diamond. This creates what’s known as the “disco-ball” effect. Some think that this excess fire is beautiful; others think it cheap and fake looking.
Color
It is impossible to produce a pure white moissanite. The stones have a quality known as “fluorescence” that causes them to appear slightly green or gray. This effect is much greater under natural light. In the jewelry store a moissanite dealer will always show the stones under a pink tinged light, as this tends to cancel out the fluorescence. Many people say they loved their moissanite ring until they got it into the sunlight.
Cost
Due to its relatively extensive manufacturing process and the fact that it is only available from one source, moissanite tends to be quite expensive (though still cheap when compared to diamonds) good quality moissanite stones run around $520 per caret.
Better Synthetic Diamond Alternatives
In the last two years there have been almost miraculous breakthroughs in the science of synthetic diamond creation. There are several new processes that create gemstones that are virtually indistinguishable from natural diamonds. One of the best I have found are the gemstones available from www.DiamondNexusLabs.com. I recently did independent research for several synthetic diamond companies and found their products to be among the best.
Diamond Nexus gemstones cut glass, they have brilliance, dispersion and radiance factors that are very close to mined diamond, and best of all, as they are new in the US market, they are priced at an incredible $79 per caret. This is a bargain that probably will not last.
Conclusion
Moissanite stones are beautiful in their own right. They offer great sparkle and flash. However, if you truly are trying to purchase a gemstone that comes as close as possible to the properties of a natural diamond moissanite is not the best choice.
Gary LaCourt is an expert in refractive dynamics and a technical consultant who has recently done independent research for a consortium of synthetic and a natural gemstone producers including http://www.DiamondNexusLabs.com

One activity that you will undoubtedly appreciate when preparing for your wedding ceremony is the wedding ring selection. Like most young girls, you have probably spent most of your life dreaming of the perfect diamond wedding ring. Hopefully, you and your fiancé have decided to shop for rings together, or you have informed him of what you like. You will wear the wedding ring for a significant amount of time and it only makes sense that it’s something that you like. If your knowledge of diamond wedding rings is limited to size, it’s a good idea that you obtain more information before you make your wedding ring selection.
Loose or Set
When most people think of a diamond wedding ring, they often think of a stone that is already set or mounted. You can actually buy a diamond only and choose a setting later. The intelligence in doing so is cost. When you shop for loose diamonds you will notice that diamonds are available in various sizes, including oval, round, and marquise. If you don’t have a personal preference for a certain style, you might want to consider your hands. Certain styles complement certain types of hands. A good guide is to match the shape of the diamond to the hand. Do you have long, narrow fingers? An oval-shaped diamond or similar elongated style diamond for your wedding ring would probably work for you. Round diamonds are considered a good choice for most hands.
The Perfect Setting
Something else to consider when shopping for a wedding ring is the setting. Do you choose platinum or yellow or white gold? Yellow gold is the setting that most people choose for their wedding ring. It is typically less expensive than platinum or white gold. If you choose a yellow gold wedding ring, be careful that you don’t choose a higher quality just because you think it is better. As the quality of yellow gold goes up, the softer the metal becomes. A wedding ring set in 24k gold will be less resilient to scratches than a ring that is set in 14k gold. Platinum is by far the most expensive and most durable of the trio. White gold is a good choice for a wedding ring setting if versatility is important to you. White gold tends to go with everything.
White diamonds are by far the most popular. Did you know that you could buy a pink diamond? Diamonds are available in other colors, but these are typically more expensive. Second to the classic white diamond is the yellow diamond. When shopping for your wedding ring you will actually find more of these than any other color of diamond.
Considering Cost
Your budget probably carries the most weight in your wedding ring selection. A wedding ring featuring a diamond can cost as little as $100 and as much as $1,000,000. In general, the amount of money you can expect to pay for a diamond wedding ring will vary according to the type of stone and the setting. The more carats a wedding ring has the more it will cost. Diamonds set in platinum will cost you the most, while you will spend very little on a wedding ring set in 14-carat gold. You can balance the cost by buying a wedding ring with a high number of carats and set in a less expensive setting.
