Ephedra is a naturally occuring herbal dietary supplement that has been marketed as a weight loss drug. The principal active ingredient is an amphetamine-like compound. Because it has been marketed as an herbal supplement and not a drug, you may not have considered talking to your doctor about it, but if you have been using Ephedra or any dietary supplement containing ephedrine alkaloids, such as ephedra, ma huang, Sida cordifolia, and pinellia, stop immediately and consult a doctor! The FDA has advised consumers to stop using these dietary supplements and published a final ruling in 2004 to ban the sale of all supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids.
After reviewing Ephedra, the Food and Drug Administration found that it has little positive effects beyond temporary short-term weight loss. To the contrary, Ephedra raises blood pressure and stresses the heart. Many people using Ephedra to lose weight have suffered strokes and died. Recent studies have confirmed that Ephedra use raises blood pressure and stresses the circulatory system. Furthermore, a study of calls to poison control centers revealed that a disproportionate rate of negative reactions were cased by Ephedra as opposed to other herbal products.
If you are using ephedra or ma huang, discontinue use immediately. If you used ephedra in the past and are now experience symptoms of high blood pressure, intense headaches, or heart palpitations, contact a lawyer right away to discuss your case.

Imagine being able to have physical therapy whenever you want, even when you’re asleep? This is possible and not just for those people who have large amounts of money. This is possible if you have a magnetic mattress pad. These pads are new innovations that will provide you with the magnetic therapy that will benefit you in so many ways. These mattress pads will lie on top of your mattress and never need to be charged and they don’t ever need maintenance.
You may ask how something that doesn’t require you to do a lot of upkeep work can give you so many benefits and how these mattress pads can be distributed for such reasonable prices when they are so beneficial. These magnetic mattress pads provide you with high quality magnetic therapy while you are lying on them. This means that while you are sleeping on it each night the mattress pad is helping to alleviate the pain associated with certain diseases.
The pad is filled with powerful magnets set out in a pattern that has been determined to provide you with the utmost magnetic therapy. These magnets are covered with damask as well as a layer of foam to ensure that you do not have your night’s sleep interrupted by the pain of sleeping on hard magnets. The magnets are orientated towards bio-north and are of a powerful enough gauss to positively affect the delicate bio-environment that is your body.
The magnetic therapy that you magnetic mattress pads provide will benefit you by helping to raise the speed of blood circulation and raising the level of oxygen in the blood. This is believed to help slow the aging since it is caused by the process of oxidization. The mattress pads are also believed to help arthritis by preventing the built up of calcium deposits.
The magnetic therapy helps with pain relief because when the rate of blood circulation rises it can become more effective in flushing away the toxins in your body that are causing the pain you are experiencing. An additional benefit is that because the toxins are being flushed away more effectively the level of your health can gradually increase as your body eliminates the toxins from your body. You body can then begin to function at closer to optimal level since it is not concentrating on eliminating the constant build up of toxins in your blood stream and else where in your body.
The increase in oxygen levels in your blood can give you more energy as the more oxygenated is distributed to the tissues and muscles in your body. This can lead to enhanced mental performance and awareness as well as increased physical performance by the increasing of your energy levels. Sleeping on magnetic mattress pads can help you to get a deep, refreshing night’s sleep every night and can help you to wake up in the morning feeling energized and healthy.
All magnetic mattress information has been researched and written by Juliette Pickup.

It happens somewhat slowly in the beginning, maybe with a small cough that gets worse as time goes on. It might simply begin with absent mindedness which is totally out of character, followed by total memory lapses. What do we do when our parents eventually need taking care of after they have spent so much of their adult lives taking care of us? What precisely is a child’s responsibility to them? Is it self-centered to relocate them into an assisted home? And which siblings should shoulder the responsibility? These are questions which plague families whenever a parent happens to become sick.
It is certainly very normal for feelings of guilt and even occasionally depression to happen to you because of a deteriorating parent. But happily there are some good associations that do offer expert advice on coping with these problems. And there are specialists in this arena who can work with you to help you through the hard times.
Local hospitals, hospices and nursing homes usually have such names and numbers to assist you in this regard. If your dad feels certain that someone has broken into the house just to steal his chocolate when he has in fact eaten it himself, do not argue with him or say that his theories are irrational. Just calmly acknowledge how he feels and make him feel safe and loved. Do small things to alleviate his fears like simply letting him see you lock the doors or secure the windows at night before going to bed. If you get an unsatisfactory attitude from his physician, take him to a geriatric psychiatrist for further examination.
Erratic behavior is one of the earlies warning signals of dementia. If your mom starts cussing at the dinner table in front of the kids just because her steak is a bit undercooked, correct her calmly by teaching her the appropriate behavior: “Excuse me, my steak is a little undercooked, can you put it back on the grill for me please?”
Never resort to bad language yourself, as this will just perpetuate the unwanted behavior. If you feel yourself losing your own temper, take a few deep breaths until you are able to control your emotions. If you are being verbally assualted then it may be best to detach from being called offensive names. Give 3 warnings, use the silent treatment and then just walk away if the behavior goes on.
This can be one of the touphest problems to cope with, particularly for a very stubborn parent. Driving is so commonly related to having freedom and yet if you get reports that your dad is passing stop signs or driving on the wrong side of the street you have to deal with it. If you take his keys away from him, he may resent you, so it may be best to take a more indirect approach.
Take him or her for a “normal” checkup to check his vision, then ask the physician for a note expressing that the patient should not be driving anymore. Send the letter to the DMV requesting that his license be taken away. This may take a few weeks, but when the DMV takes away his license, be sympathetic and do research on transportation for seniors in the area, which is usually inexpensive and efficient.

If you have always been procrastinating on how to get started or going with your goals, try this interesting method. Write a blog.
“What? You are asking me to publicly declare my goals?” Before you start thinking that this is another fruitless suggestion, would it convince you if we are to tell you that famous professional life coaches such as Anthony Robbins actually encourage people “to make commitments to others who hold them to a higher standard” about their goals?
When you make public announcements to people you trust about your goals, the tendency is, you will do whatever it takes to achieve your wildest dreams so as not to disappoint them. You will be less likely to stray from your bottom-line.
“Alright, I am convinced of the benefits of announcing my goals. But why must I have a blog?” A blog gives you more advantages than what a verbal announcement can provide. It helps you to
(1) Expand the No. of People You Are Committed To
Imagine declaring your goals to the entire internet community! Being online and available 24 by 7, almost anyone who have access to your blog url would be able to share your joys and frustrations in the pursuit of your dreams. Even your loved ones working or studying overseas would be able to know your progress through the internet. Surely you would not want to let them down by procrastinating on your goal tasks?
(2) Focus and Review Your Goals
As you write about your goal progress in the blog, you are actually focusing and reviewing the targets and methods in your goal plan. Say for example, your goal is to lose 20 pounds in 6 months. After sticking to a non-fat diet for 3 months, you find that your weight loss remained stagnant upon reviewing your past blog records. At this time, it may be appropriate for you to change your approach towards achieving your goal. You may want to add some exercise into your goal tasks, or change the timeline of your target. Sometimes, if you allow readers to add comments or suggestions to your blog, you might also receive an interesting tip or two from your friends or the public who have “been there, done that”.
(3) Obtain Constant Visualization of Success
By consistently visualizing that you are living your dreams, it is easier to encourage yourself to achieve much more with your goal. A blog provides that kind of opportunity for this consistent reflection. If you write your blog on a weekly or even daily basis, you are constantly reminding yourself of the potential success that you can achieve should you religiously work on the goals tasks in the action plan.
(4) Get a Constant Stream of Motivation
Most people derive a lot of satisfaction and momentum once they have realized that they have made a lot of progress in their goal endeavours. It will be exhilarating to know how close you are to achieving your goals. Is not it? If you have a blog, you can easily check your status just by reviewing your past records. While checking, you may also come across a few words of encouragement left by your friends or the public on your blog. It is just like running a marathon race, with people constantly cheering you on the sides. Eventually you will be able to run pass the finishing line!
Start a blog today and write towards your goal success. You will be amazed at its results! See you at the finishing line.

It is amazing how one’s mind sees things - and yet it doesn’t. How can we see something in front of us and then - poof - it’s gone. But it really isn’t gone. It’s still there.
Or how about we see things that are not really there at all? We make them up. Now we’re talking.
Only if we could envision beer and then - poof - there it is.
Sound weird?
Then sit back and enjoy this illusion.
On a more serious note:
If we envision health - and it’s not present in the body at the moment - will it become so? Dr Bruce Lipton thinks so.
So do I.
The optical illusion linked above is an illustration of how we perceive things - and how we can change that perception. It is to illustrate the point driven home by Dr Bruce Lipton.
Who is Dr Bruce Lipton, PhD?
Formerly a microbiology professor at a medical school, Bruce Lipton is now doing research at Standford University. Bruce travels all around the country educating and informing thousands of people.
Dr. Bruce Lipton’s main message: Genes do not control you. You control your genes. Perception of the environment is what turns on or turns off genes. Perception comes from you - your mind, thoughts and beliefs.
This translates into: You control your own health.
It is a big statement. Huge in fact.
I highly encourage you to rent, buy or borrow his DVD lecture entitled, The New Biology, Where Mind and Matter Meet by Dr Bruce Lipton.
I saw Bruce Lipton at my medical school. He is a brillant and engaging speaker. Hilarious as well.
So next time you go to sit down in front on the tube, drop this in. Empower yourself.
Improve your life and your health. It is possible.
The desire to regain health must begin with you. It is not a doctor’s job to heal you. They simply provide tools and advice.
The real healer is you. Harness that.
In health,
Ben

There is a split in the medical world as to whether trichotillomania is an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or an impulse disorder. However, what ever it is classified as, about 2% of the population know it causes them a great deal of distress, discomfort and embarrassment. The condition is as individual as the people who suffer from it. For many the symptoms will be evident as hair pulling. Literally pulling their hair out from any area of their body and even from their close relatives and partners. Others will focus on pulling hair from maybe just one area of the body such eyebrow pulling, eyelash pulling and so on.
What happens after hair has been pulled from the body can also vary from sufferer to sufferer. Some then keep the hair, whilst others use the pulled hair as dental floss and a small percentage eat the hair, which is referred to as trichophagia. Trichophagia can cause serious stomach pain and on occasions surgery is needed to remove hairball.
The hair pulling behaviour usually starts in young children with the male and female split being about 50 - 50. By with the onset of puberty 90% of recorded cases are female. Although recorded cases do not necessarily reflect the true picture. It is quite accepted in modern society that men can from an early age start to have a receding hairline and bald patches. Very little is publicly said, whilst females with bald patches, missing eyebrows etc are subject to at the very least to comment.
Diagnosis is on occasion difficult even for trichologics as often admitting this behaviour would add shame to the discomfort and may result in the loss of sympathy. As a London and Midlands based hypnotherapist who specialises in using hypnotherapy and EFT with people who have trichotillomania, I recently treated a client who’s partner believed she had alopecia and when she got up the courage to admit she was pulling out her own hair the relationship collapsed. This was exceptional it should be noted as most partners have an inkling that something is not quite right and when told that it is a condition, are usually very supportive.
Over time people with trichotillomania (sometimes shortened to TTM) become adept at covering up the damage. Some use wigs, whilst others will use scarves and caps. For those with eyelash or eyebrow pulling behaviour will cover the evidence by using false eyelashes and cosmetics.
If treatment is not offered quickly the bald patches will grow and effect not only have an adverse effect on external appearance but also the person’s ability to function in the big wide and often windy world. Activities such as swimming, driving in a convertible car become only dreams.
All of this restriction on their life can naturally affect their self-confidence and self esteem. Depression is often linked with trichotillomania and medication may be prescribed such as Prozac. Some people report some improvement with pharmaceutical treatment but others prefer an alternative approach including behaviour therapy. CBT, support groups and hypnotherapy. Some people also benefit from dietary changes.
As an experienced trichotillomania hypnotherapist, I have found that a combination of practical and pleasant activities and strategies as well hypnosis and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can be effective. After working with clients directly in one to one sessions, I also provide hypnosis and subliminal cds to be used each evening in addition and to continue the progressive made in the hypnotherapy sessions.
Whether working with a client face to face or by email, it is possible with honesty and trust to work out times and situations which exacerbate the issue and make a change. Just like learning to walk it takes time, practise and encouragement from people around you.
In my experience trichotillomania in all its forms can be treated effectively and either reduced in severity or eliminated if the client’s motivation is there and the support of loved ones can be counted on.

The cost of skilled nursing care is slowly rising. Currently, the average cost of care in Arizona ranges from $3,500 to $4,500 per month. Skilled nursing facilities are great for seniors who require skilled nursing care by medical professionals such as registered nurses or physicians. However, is skilled nursing care appropriate for those who only require assistance with their activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing and going to the bathroom? Is it realistic for someone to pay $3,000 to $6,000 a month for skilled nursing care when their only requirement is assistance with their ADLs? Believe it or not, there are many seniors who do not require skilled nursing care and remain in nursing homes due to their lack of knowledge of the options available to them. There are affordable alternatives to nursing home care. When a senior requires long term care without 24 hour medical supervision, the preferred alternative is Assisted Living Homes.
You may ask, “What is an Assisted Living Home?” In Arizona, an Assisted Living Home is a regular home located within a residential neighborhood and licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services to provide assistance 24 hours a day to those who need care outside of their own home. Assisted Living Homes are licensed for up to 10 residents. There are three levels of care an Assisted Living Home can be licensed for: Supervisory, Personal and Directed. Every Assisted Living Home is licensed for one or more of these levels of care. In sum, Assisted Living Homes are homes licensed to provide care for seniors who are no longer able to live alone, and do not require skilled nursing care.
What are the benefits of an Assisted Living Home? An Assisted Living Home gives residents a feeling of being at home instead of an institutionalized setting. Each caregiver and manager is required to become certified, and often times the caregiver or manager lives in the home full time. Each home provides 24 hours of care, 7 days a week. Many homes offer hospice care, respite care, Alzheimer’s/Memory Care, incontinence care, and therapeutic services under the direction of a physician. In addition, three nutritious meals are prepared for the residents along with snacks throughout the day, as well as daily activities as required by law. Both private and semi-private rooms are available for residents to choose from. As a result, there are many benefits available when residing in an Assisted Living Home.
Why is an Assisted Living Home unique? An Assisted Living Home provides care in a home setting, and because there is a limit of up to 10 residents in each home, the ratio of caregiver to residents is such that the care provided is very individualized as opposed to larger facilities. Monthly costs for Assisted Living Homes range from $1,500 to $3,000, allowing for an affordable option compared to the cost of nursing home care. Private pay may be the only option currently offered by the majority of Assisted Living Homes. However, the facilities that do accept different payment sources such as ALTCS (Arizona’s Medicaid Program referred to as Arizona Long Term Care System), usually require a resident to private pay for a certain period of time before they allow government benefits to begin. Bottom line: Assisted Living Homes are less expensive and provide more individualized care in a home-like setting.
Finally, when living at home is not an option and skilled nursing care is either out of one’s budget or not the right option based upon one’s level of care, Assisted Living Homes are the affordable alternative senior housing choice.

“As an arthritis specialist, one area that I see people complain about more often than almost any other, is their feet.” So says Dr. Nathan Wei, Clinical Director of The Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of Maryland. “This is too bad because there are many treatments that can be helpful,” Dr. Wei adds.
The foot is made up of 26 bones and 39 muscles…
The foot and ankle are designed to bear weight. The multiple joints in the feet are capable of adjusting to almost any terrain and the padding in the feet are designed to absorb shock.. The ankle joint allows the foot to move up and down, side to side, and inward and outward (inversion and eversion).
Not All Foot Pain Comes From The Foot!
Careful examination of the low back, hip, and knee should be performed because pain from these areas may affect the foot and ankle. In particular, pinched nerves in the low back can cause foot pain and weakness.
Ankle sprains are common- 25,000 people sprain an ankle every day!
The goal of treatment is to relieve pain and prevent instability.
Treatment of an acute sprain consists of rest, ice compression and elevation (”RICE”). Exercises to help stabilize and strengthen the ankle should be started.
Arthritis of the ankle may cause recurrent pain and swelling.
Pain from arthritis typically is made worse by weight-bearing particularly on uneven ground. What this means is you should try to avoid excessive walking or running on uneven ground. Anti-inflammatory medication and proper foot support can do wonders.
Pain in the ball of the foot has many causes…
- Foot strain occurs when a person “overdoes it.” And the treatment is pretty straightforward. Rest.
- Morton’s neuroma (a benign nerve tumor usually located between the 3rd and 4th toes)
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome (pinched nerve in the ankle)
- Arthritis.
Other common causes of foot pain include:
- Stress fractures may occur after excessive walking.
- Achilles tendonitis causes pain in the back of the heel. Treatment consists of anti-inflammatory medicines, rest, a heel lift, and gentle stretching.
- Plantar fasciitis causes pain in the bottom of the heel. Treatment includes rest, anti-inflammatory medication, heel cup, orthotics, stretching, and local steroid injection.
- Flat foot.
Muscle strengthening exercises and orthotics are helpful.
Two other common problems are:
- Osteoarthritis, particularly common in the big toe. The big toe will point out to the side. When bursitis alongside the great toe joint develops, this condition is referred to as a bunion. Treatment involves proper padding and footwear. In extreme cases, surgery is required.
- Neuropathy. This painful condition is particularly common in diabetics. This occurs when the small nerves in the feet are damaged. Symptoms include burning, tingling, and pain in the feet - worse at night.
Well fitted orthotics (arch supports) can alleviate not only foot and ankle pain but pain in the knees, hips, low back, and neck!!
We often take the ability to walk for granted. This ability involves the use of two engineering marvels- our feet and ankles. Because of the tremendous amount of force transmitted to the feet with walking, unique problems may develop. Attention to proper preventative care, i.e., comfortable shoes, sox, hygiene, support, along with proper prompt medical care can really put the brakes on foot pain.
