T-Mobile has reported a sharp rise in subscription, coming after the news of its proposed merger with Orange, which is expected to create the country’s largest mobile broadband operator if the deal successfully goes through.
Richard Moat, CEO of T-Mobile UK, disclosed the company’s plans to increase its market value prior to the merger. He told The Times that the company has increased the subscribers’ base by 100,000 in the month of September, which is 13 % higher that the previous record which was in December 2007.
The fortunes of the company have fluctuated a lot since 2007 because of declining customer base and German parent company Deutsche Telekom reducing the accepted value of its UK mobile arm by 1.8 billion.
The sudden surge in customers is due to the new plans on board which were promoted to lure new customers. These are ‘Free Texts for Life’ and ‘pay as you go’ customer plans. These have been well-received and have led to increased customer base, explained Moat.
